that song is so good, it beats peanut butter ice cream. with butterscotch sauce. i swear! listened to it a billion times over the last 2 days, i still get that goofy smile. like i wanna run in circles until my brain collapses. damn!

could it get aaany better. while i'm at it, using ridiculous metaphors and all, throw soko into the mix and even kittens couldn't compete. antidepressant, anyone?

now i haven't listened to kid harpoon's latest record, 'once', but his 2 eps are absolutely brilliant and so enjoyable, i can only recommend you check him out.

rather surreal

quite curious about this guy. poke around a bit and you'll find his world and influences to be quite intriguing.

also, his new project is called disappearers. that includes gillian maguire too, and i keep hearing her name cos she's been playing with loads of cool people : kid harpoon, soko, the mystery jets etc. so yeah, definitely keep an eye on that!

oooooh i can't wait.
laura marling's new album will be released in march (usa, early april) and a special cd/dvd edition is already available to pre-order - uk only. it includes a 45-minute documentary, live goodies (think johnny flynn, mumford + sons, andrew bird, peggy sue) and links to more laura marling-related awesomeness.

but for now, two new tracks recorded last winter in india :

there lies a lady

saw johnny flynn at the barfly yesterday. ahh, flushed cheeks. on his own, he was very sweet and heartwarming. [see for yourself]

opening for him was brighton-based lauren doss, aka mechanical bride.

now dear readers... honestly prevails : i'm an idiot. no, no, really, i insist. see.. my plan was to drop an obscure and neat little reference to caroline weeks because that's who lauren doss reminded me of. if you'd like to think i'm an intelligent person, please refrain, and stop reading now.

hm. you're still here.

are you sure?

well, ok. i JUST realized caroline weeks was actually on stage with her. and she was standing 1m away from me during the whole johnny flynn set. I MEAN, how dumb can i get!

so yeah. back on topic. one thing you should do is go to mechanical bride's myspace page, and check out her cover of rihanna's 'umbrella'. i know everybody is fed up of 'umbrella' at this point but this is really interesting - sweet and eerie, a whole different experience. her own songs are very good too.

because the all-carb diet isn't working

first heard that song on the 'one kiss can lead to another' compilation, hundreds of tracks, loads of really neat girl groups and artists but that one really stood out for me. certainly is the most original anyway : well... boys and love issues. but really. it's about calories. do you wanna lose a pound a day? try the worryin' way.
but you know what, for such a superficial topic, it's got lots of soul too. and there's so much talent there. the fabulettes were loretta ludlow, addie williams, mattie lovett and annette snell - based in florida, the band was first known as the mar-vells and mostly did session work in the area 'til the mid-60's. then signed with monument records and became the fabulettes, quite a cool name if i must say. loretta ludlow used to sing lead but it's actually addie williams here, what an absolute kick ass voice! really cheeky and deep and playful. very quotable lyrics, best opening line ever.

annette snell went on to a succesful solo career, you can hear some of that here too. again, it's marvelous if a bit more serious.

have one on me

was just listening to the new songs from joanna newsom's upcoming album, 'have one on me'. a triple album at that! sounds really great, doesn't it? liking the artwork too. and wow, does she look good.

randoms

and : i need new earphones. those i'm stuck with.. well. imagine you're underwater and someone is playing music above. or you're standing in the middle of a huge garage, trying to have a conversation with someone on the other side. that's how it sounds like. so yeah.

i'm keeping them tho, it's really cool. note to self : use old earphones when drunk.

keep seeing/hearing marina & the diamonds everywhere. getting anxious. better turn out good.

secret identity

i'd like to develop but my distorted sleeping pattern is currently messing with my brain. sorry.
