travel through time

went record shopping yesterday - picked up metric's 'grow up and blow away' among others. then realized i was only a couple of streets away from where some of these songs were recorded.

click here for a video of the band performing an acoustic version of 'help i'm alive' @ CanadaForHaiti last week.

you + me

really neat track. mind you, it took me ages to understand the overall meaning.. but... i think i got it. go me!

hello seahorse! is a mexican band - looks like they made a pretty good name for themselves over the last few years. two albums out and a third one on the go. that particular track won them the "best song of the year" award at mexico's indie-o awards last year.. just read someone comparing them to metric too.

devil's spoke

because i posted about mumford + sons, johnny flynn, jay jay pistolet and couldn't possibly ignore laura marling - however predictable. seriously, these guys make for the coolest gang ever.

don't you love it when an artist actually lives up to the hype? you hear about someone again and again and when you finally decide to give them a try, you're still blown away.

i've been listening to laura marling's first album, 'alas i cannot swim', a lot over the last few days, it really is amazing. every song slowly builds up until it reaches that point when you can't do anything but listen. every song there stands on its own, every song a turning point. but there's more to come too : new album, 'i speak because i can', is due for release in march. possibly followed by another record end of the year? and i'm already so in love with the new songs. wow. anyway, enough talking! watch the videos and you'll see what i'm talking about :

work this weekend was insane but entertaining. the ghostbusters definitely spiced it up. yes, i did say ghostbusters.

if music be the food of love, play on..

...give me excess of it!

think ben weaver with an extra layer of lyricism - which in itself isn't so surprising if you consider that south african-born johnny flynn is also a succesful stage actor, who spent the whole of 2007 touring with a shakespeare company. 2008 followed with the release of first full-length album, 'a larum' and tours with duffy and london darlings laura marling + mumford and sons.

new ep, 'sweet william' is out just now - definitely keeps you waiting for more. add a one off paris date end of january, a few gigs in the uk in february and a visit to sxsw a month later and it's another busy year for johnny flynn.

shall we have a bit of dance?

as a celebration, you know. pretty straightforward. think of all the days to come and all the joy and pain they will bring - all of it you will have to face alone. wonderfully alone, with everything ahead of you.

there's nothing left here to worry about..

from what i hear, these guys have built a pretty mental live reputation. check out their site for more info about their upcoming tour. or have a listen to their new ep - it's called 'i love london' and it's epic to say the least.

i read that independence was a lightness in your step

she's on a mission, isn't she?
now i just woke up from my nap so i'll keep it simple :

- i really like her
- new album, 'the family jewels' is out mid-february. available to pre-order pretty much everywhere.
- uk tour to be sold out quickly - just to let you know.

and the question remains..

[can you be within popular culture without becoming it?]
